Conventional vs. Digital Impressions
With the iTero scanner, your orthodontist will be able to obtain a highly accurate digital impression of your teeth and jaw without using the outdated tray and putty method. The tray and putty technique was unpleasant and lead to taking multiple rounds of impressions that could still be rejected, broken, or misplaced. The iTero scanner ensures a more accurate impression from the start which will result in increased patient comfort and more accurate diagnosis and treatment. Digital impressions give you the ability to see your teeth instantly in 3D, which will improve your understanding of your diagnosis, treatment plan, and expected result.
How Does it Work?
The iTero scanner digitally captures the structure of the teeth and gums using the latest optical technology. The scanner is a compact, hand-held wand that your orthodontist uses to scan your smile into a 3D impression of your teeth and soft tissue structures. The entire process is radiation-free and takes 2-3 minutes to complete. You will be able to follow the progress of the scan on the computer screen.
